Planning a Beach Wedding in Puri

A wedding beside the Bay of Bengal is mostly a question of matching the guest list to the lawn, and then working backwards through the weather. Both are easier than they sound.

Three Lawns, Three Guest Lists

  • Lawn 1 — 5,000 sq ft, up to 400 guests. The grandest setting, for the reception itself.
  • Lawn 2 — 2,400 sq ft, up to 220 guests. The versatile middle option, and a good sangeet or mehendi lawn.
  • Lawn 3 — 1,200 sq ft, up to 100 guests. Intimate, for the ceremony or a family dinner.

A multi-day wedding can move between all three, which keeps each function feeling distinct without anybody changing venue.

Pick Your Season First

November to February is the wedding season here for good reason: dry, mild, and pleasant enough to keep functions outdoors from mid-morning to late evening. March to May is workable if functions are held after sunset. Avoid the monsoon months of June to September for anything you are not willing to move under cover at short notice, and always agree a wet-weather plan in writing.

Book the season before the lawn. Everything else can be adjusted; the weather cannot.

Where the Guests Sleep

There are 37 rooms and suites on site, in garden view, pool and garden view, and sea view categories, plus suites. For a wedding of a few hundred that will not house everyone, so block your rooms early and plan on nearby properties for the overflow — keeping the immediate family and the wedding party on site is the arrangement that saves the most time on the day.

Catering and Coordination

Food comes from the OUDICHI kitchen, so a menu can be tasted before it is committed to, and there is no outside caterer to coordinate with. For guests arriving as pilgrims as much as wedding guests, the Shree Jagannath Temple is 2 km away and the beach a two-minute walk — which tends to solve the question of what everyone does between functions.
